It is not limited to prescription items but includes over-the-counter medications such as vitamin pills, cough syrup, suppositories, inhalers, patches, etc. It is not limited to human medications. Many veterinary medications mirror the effect of human medications and therefore are dangerous. Some of them are exactly the same formula. The goals of the program are to reduce the availability of harmful medications in the household that toddlers and older children can consume either accidentally or as part of a drug related problem. In addition, the removal of these products is very beneficial to the environment by reducing groundwater pollution. Lastly many of the empty containers are recycled to the animal care agencies for vet meds. We will also provide a power point presentaion in the building for the parents and adults. Our event will run from 1pm to 4pm and Holcomb Behavioral Heath Prevention Team will be on hand with free literature on substance use. We will also be collaborating with the Brdgeway Recovery School as well as Ken Willimas Recovery and the Lighthouse Network. The Council Rock Coalition for Healthy YouthWhere: Newtown, PA When: November 1, 2011 Brief Description: The Council Rock School District will participate in a drug facts awareness campaign involving three middle schools and two high schools. During morning announcements a fact chosen by the "Shatter the Myths" booklet will be delivered. Metropolitan Drug CommissionWhere: Knoxville, TN When: October 31 - November 4, 2011 Brief Description: The Metropolitan Drug Commission (MDC) has partnered with Comcast Cable to air a series of five PSAs during National Drug Facts Week. Five teen volunteers will be filmed asking their most pressing drug and alcohol-related questions. MDC will then work with a local adult expert to get an on-camera response. The PSAs will run 30 seconds each, and a different PSA will run each day of the week on Comcast.
